SMA Home Storage 3.2
JouleSpecs does not sell and does not show shop prices: check the price where you buy.
SMA Home Storage 3.2 is the single module of SMA's high-voltage range: one lithium iron phosphate unit, built to stay the base of a system that can grow later on. It has no inverter of its own and doesn't work alone: an SMA hybrid inverter from the Smart Energy family is needed, and in this size only the single-phase Sunny Boy Smart Energy model can drive it.
It stores the energy panels produce during the day and gives it back once the sun isn't enough anymore. It installs indoors or outdoors, on a wall or on the floor with the optional base.
It's suited to anyone with a modest-sized single-phase solar system who wants to start storing excess energy without committing right away to the final capacity: the system expands by adding more modules in later years. Anyone who already has an inverter from another brand, or a three-phase connection, should look elsewhere: here battery and inverter are a closed package.

Which documents this page rests on
The rest of the data comes from one page on the manufacturer's site, cited row by row in the table above.
A manual or a datasheet counts as a source even when the original file is hosted elsewhere: what matters is the document, not the server. Where that happens, it is stated above.
What it really costs
How we worked it out
- stated cycles
- 8000
- warranty years
- 730
- guaranteed energy throughput
- 7200
How we worked it out
- usable capacity
- 3.280
- weight
- 38
These numbers are calculated, not stated: they have no source to cite, they have a formula you can redo. The price used is the manufacturer's list price, which is stable and the same in every country — not a shop's price on the day.
Pros and cons
In favour
- It expands by adding more modules within two years of installation, as household consumption grows.
- The usable capacity is measured at a depth of discharge of 100%.
- It's rated for outdoor installation too: there's no need to find it a spot indoors.
Worth knowing
- It only works with the single-phase Sunny Boy Smart Energy inverter: it doesn't pair with inverters from other brands or with the older Sunny Boy Storage.
- The ten-year warranty isn't automatic: without registration within thirty days of commissioning, it stays at two years.
