BYD Battery-Box Premium HVM 22.1 vs Huawei LUNA2000-14-S1

Technical comparison · High voltage

In brief

Two high-voltage LFP home batteries, 22.08 kWh usable for the BYD against 13.8 for the Huawei: the question is how much energy is really needed, and right after it which inverter is on the roof. The BYD pairs with sixteen brands, the Huawei only with its own SUN2000 and SUN5000. Values as declared by the manufacturers.

The differences that matter

  • Warranty: 10 years or 68.31 MWh versus 5 years (28.84 MWh) → at one full cycle a day the BYD reaches its energy cap after about 8.5 years, inside the 10; the Huawei runs out after 5.
  • Height: 216 cm versus 87 cm → the BYD needs a room with a high ceiling, the Huawei fits a low bay.
  • Inverter: sixteen brands on BYD's list versus only Huawei SUN2000 and SUN5000 → with the BYD you keep your inverter or change it later; with the Huawei, battery and inverter are chosen together.

Which one to choose

Choose BYD Battery-Box Premium HVM 22.1 if…

demand is high and you want to cover it with a single column, paired with an inverter from BYD's list: at one full cycle a day the 68.31 MWh cap arrives after about 8.5 years, inside the 10-year warranty. If the router drops the house keeps running, with control over the local network. In return you need a room with more than 216 cm of usable height, rated IP55 and operating from −10 °C.

Choose Huawei LUNA2000-14-S1 if…

the inverter is already a Huawei SUN2000 or SUN5000, demand fits within 13.8 kWh and there is no room for a column over two metres tall: the LUNA2000-14-S1 is 87 cm tall, rated IP66 and for operation down to −20 °C. The trade-off: a 5-year warranty, no other inverter brands and reduced operation without internet.
