BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS 10.2 vs SMA Home Storage 13.1

Technical comparison · High voltage

In brief

Both are LFP high-voltage home batteries, but the choice starts from the inverter. BYD's official list names sixteen inverter brands; the 13.1 kWh SMA works only with SMA inverters.

Declared compatible inverters Sedici marchi nell'elenco ufficiale: Fronius, GoodWe, Viessmann, KOSTAL, SMA, Sungrow, GE, KACO, KACO NH, Ingeteam, Solis, Canadian Solar, Deye, Solplanet, Western CO, Sosen.

The differences that matter

  • Compatible inverters: sixteen brands → SMA only: the inverter you already own can decide before any other figure does.
  • Warranty 10 → 2 years (manufacturer-declared values): SMA declares 8,000 cycles and BYD 3,650, but the SMA cover lasts 2 years.
  • Maximum expansion 38.4 → 16.4 kWh: the BYD leaves more room to grow.
  • Floor → wall mounting: decides where the space in the house has to be; 167 kg against 152 kg.

Which one to choose

Choose BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS 10.2 if…

your home inverter is not SMA, or you want the freedom to change brand later: the BYD list covers sixteen brands, for example Fronius, KOSTAL or Sungrow, and the system expands to 38.4 kWh. It also works fully without internet, with control over the local network. You accept 10.24 kWh to start, floor installation and 167 kg.

Choose SMA Home Storage 13.1 if…

the house already has an SMA Sunny Boy Smart Energy or Sunny Tripower Smart Energy inverter: the SMA offers 13.12 kWh, wall-mounted, with IP65. You accept staying within the SMA family, a maximum expansion of 16.4 kWh, a 2-year warranty against 10, and no fitting to an old Sunny Boy Storage.
