BYD Battery-Box Premium HVM 8.3 vs Huawei LUNA2000-7-S1

Technical comparison · High voltage

In brief

The two batteries are close in size, 8.28 and 6.9 kWh usable; the inverter decides, because the Huawei works only with Huawei inverters while BYD lists sixteen brands. All figures are manufacturer-declared values.

The differences that matter

  • 8.28 vs 6.9 kWh usable → about 1.4 kWh more to use every day with the BYD.
  • Warranty 10 vs 5 years, but 25.62 vs 28.84 MWh guaranteed → the BYD lasts longer in years, the Huawei allows more total energy: it depends on how much you cycle.
  • Inverters: sixteen brands vs Huawei only → with a non-Huawei inverter, the BYD is the only option (if your model is listed).
  • IP55, minimum -10 °C vs IP66, minimum -20 °C → the Huawei has the higher protection rating and the wider temperature range.

Which one to choose

Choose BYD Battery-Box Premium HVM 8.3 if…

your inverter is not a Huawei, or you want a long warranty and a system that works fully without internet and can be controlled over the local network. The catch is the guaranteed energy: with one cycle a day, in theory, the guaranteed-energy cap arrives after about eight and a half years (3,094 cycles), before the ten years of warranty are up.

Choose Huawei LUNA2000-7-S1 if…

your inverter is already a Huawei SUN2000 or SUN5000 and you want a low unit (51 cm), rated IP66, working from -20 to 55 °C. The compromise: the warranty is five years, without internet it works in a reduced way and it takes no other inverters.
