The differences that matter

  • Compatible inverters → BYD: sixteen brands on the official list; Huawei: only its own SUN2000 and SUN5000 range. The inverter comes first.
  • Usable capacity and weight, 12.8 kWh and 205 kg vs 6.9 kWh and 80 kg → nearly twice the energy, but the floor and the route in must be planned for 205 kg.
  • Warranty, 10 vs 5 years → guaranteed energy is 38.53 vs 28.84 MWh: the BYD stays covered twice as long and for more energy delivered.
  • Without internet, fully vs reduced → the BYD keeps working on the local network; the Huawei runs in a reduced mode.

Which one to choose

Choose BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS 12.8 if…

A home with an inverter from another brand (BYD's official list includes Fronius, SMA, Sungrow and KOSTAL, among others), which needs to run fully without internet, on the local network, with remote updates that can be switched off. 12.8 kWh usable and a 10-year warranty. The trade-off is weight, 205 kg, and IP55, floor-mounted.

Choose Huawei LUNA2000-7-S1 if…

A home with a Huawei SUN2000 or SUN5000 inverter: 6.9 kWh usable in 80 kg, IP66 and a minimum temperature of −20 °C. You accept a 5-year warranty and reduced operation when there is no internet.
