BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS 12.8 vs RCT Power Battery 9.6

Technical comparison · High voltage

In brief

Two high-voltage home batteries, both LFP and floor-standing. The inverter decides: the BYD has an official list of sixteen compatible brands, while the RCT is declared for RCT Power Storage DC inverters.

The differences that matter

  • Compatible inverters, list of sixteen brands vs RCT Power Storage DC inverters → with the BYD you start from the inverter you already have; with the RCT the pairing is with RCT inverters.
  • Usable capacity, 12.8 kWh vs 8.64 kWh → expandable to 38.4 kWh vs 19.2 kWh.
  • Capacity guaranteed after the 10-year warranty, 60% vs 80% → over the same years, the RCT guarantees a smaller loss.
  • Protection and temperature, IP55 and -10 to 50 °C vs IP42 and 5 to 40 °C → the BYD tolerates a less sheltered room.

Which one to choose

Choose BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS 12.8 if…

you already own an inverter from another brand, or have not chosen one yet: the official list includes Fronius, SMA, Sungrow and KOSTAL among others, with permitted module count and minimum firmware for each model. It also offers local-network control and full operation without internet (manufacturer-declared values). The trade-off: it weighs 205 kg and stands 146 cm tall, the first start-up needs the app, and the capacity guaranteed at the end of the warranty is lower.

Choose RCT Power Battery 9.6 if…

your inverter is an RCT Power Storage DC and you want a more compact unit on the floor: 126 kg and a 34 × 34 cm footprint. The trade-off: IP42 and 5 to 40 °C mean choosing the room with more care, there is no local control, and expansion stops at a lower ceiling.
