BYD Battery-Box Premium HVM 13.8
JouleSpecs does not sell and does not show shop prices: check the price where you buy.
The BYD Battery-Box Premium HVM 13.8 is a high-voltage lithium iron phosphate battery with a modular design, expandable at any time. BYD publishes a list of compatible inverters, and that is where the pairing should be checked.
The list covers sixteen brands, among others Fronius, Kostal, SMA, KACO, Solis, Sungrow, and for each model it gives the number of modules allowed and the minimum firmware version: before buying, it's worth checking that the inverter already chosen is on the list. An internet connection is not mandatory but recommended; initial setup needs the manufacturer's app.

A manual or a datasheet counts as a source even when the original file is hosted elsewhere: what matters is the document, not the server. Where that happens, it is stated above.
What it really costs
How we worked it out
- stated cycles
- 3650
- warranty years
- 3650
- guaranteed energy throughput
- 3093
These numbers are calculated, not stated: they have no source to cite, they have a formula you can redo. The price used is the manufacturer's list price, which is stable and the same in every country — not a shop's price on the day.
Pros and cons
In favour
- The list of compatible inverters covers sixteen brands, with the number of modules allowed for each model.
- Round-trip efficiency is at least 96%.
- It has an Ethernet port as standard.
- The warranty promises at least 60% of usable capacity after ten years, or sooner if the minimum throughput energy is reached.
Worth knowing
- Setup requires the manufacturer's app and the latest firmware.
- After ten years and 3,650 cycles the declared efficiency drops from 96% to 94%.
