SMA Home Storage 6.5
JouleSpecs does not sell and does not show shop prices: check the price where you buy.
SMA Home Storage 6.5 combines two lithium iron phosphate modules in a single tower. Paired with the Sunny Boy Smart Energy inverter, it's the system HTW Berlin's Stromspeicher-Inspektion 2026 measured with the highest efficiency among hybrid-inverter storage units in its power class: the figure covers the battery-plus-inverter pairing as a whole, not the battery alone, because that's how this independent test works.
It has no inverter of its own: one of SMA's hybrid inverters from the Smart Energy family is always needed, either the single-phase Sunny Boy Smart Energy or the three-phase Sunny Tripower Smart Energy. It stores solar energy during the day and gives it back according to the management of the connected inverter, which decides when to charge and when to discharge.

Which documents this page rests on
The rest of the data comes from one page on the manufacturer's site, cited row by row in the table above.
A manual or a datasheet counts as a source even when the original file is hosted elsewhere: what matters is the document, not the server. Where that happens, it is stated above.
What it really costs
How we worked it out
- stated cycles
- 8000
- warranty years
- 730
- guaranteed energy throughput
- 7200
How we worked it out
- usable capacity
- 6.560
- weight
- 76
These numbers are calculated, not stated: they have no source to cite, they have a formula you can redo. The price used is the manufacturer's list price, which is stable and the same in every country — not a shop's price on the day.
Pros and cons
In favour
- Its efficiency was measured by an independent lab, HTW Berlin.
- It pairs with both the single-phase and the three-phase inverter in the Smart Energy range: the choice depends on the home system, not the battery.
- Eight thousand cycles down to 60% residual capacity: the end-of-life threshold is stated.
Worth knowing
- Even at rest it draws something: with two modules that's four watts staying on all year round.
- The full ten years of warranty are only obtained by registering the product within a month of commissioning.
