BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS 10.2 vs SMA Home Storage 6.5

Technical comparison · High voltage

In brief

The inverter decides here: the BYD works with sixteen brands on its official list, the SMA only with the two Smart Energy hybrid inverters of its own range. If the inverter is already installed, the choice is often made for you. Warranty and guaranteed energy are manufacturer-declared values.

Declared compatible inverters Sedici marchi nell'elenco ufficiale: Fronius, GoodWe, Viessmann, KOSTAL, SMA, Sungrow, GE, KACO, KACO NH, Ingeteam, Solis, Canadian Solar, Deye, Solplanet, Western CO, Sosen.

The differences that matter

  • Inverters: sixteen brands vs the two SMA Smart Energy hybrids → if you already own an inverter, the choice is often settled.
  • Warranty: 10 years vs 2; guaranteed energy: 30.82 vs 47.232 MWh → the SMA declares more energy overall, but the BYD stays covered for much longer.
  • Installation: 167 kg floor-standing vs 76 kg wall-mounted → it changes where in the house it fits.
  • Usable capacity: 10.24 vs 6.56 kWh, up to 38.4 vs 16.4 kWh expanded → how much room you have to grow.

Which one to choose

Choose BYD Battery-Box Premium HVS 10.2 if…

you already have an inverter from another brand (the official list includes Fronius, SMA, Kostal, Sungrow, Deye and others), or you want to start at 10.24 kWh usable and grow to 38.4 kWh. You accept 167 kg standing on the floor and IP55; the declared warranty is 10 years.

Choose SMA Home Storage 6.5 if…

you have picked an SMA Smart Energy hybrid inverter, single- or three-phase, and want a 6.56 kWh store that hangs on the wall, 76 kg, IP65, expandable to 16.4 kWh. It does not pair with other brands' inverters or with the older Sunny Boy Storage, and the declared warranty is 2 years.
