BYD Battery-Box Premium HVM 19.3 vs Huawei LUNA2000-21-S1

Technical comparison · High voltage

In brief

Two high-voltage LFP batteries with about 20 kWh usable, 19.32 for the BYD and 20.7 for the Huawei: capacity does not separate them, the inverter, the warranty and the height do. The BYD pairs with sixteen brands, the Huawei only with its own SUN2000 and SUN5000. Values as declared by the manufacturers.

The differences that matter

  • Warranty: 10 years or 59.77 MWh versus 5 years or 28.84 MWh → at one full cycle a day the energy cap arrives after about 8.5 years for the BYD, inside the 10, and after about 3 years 10 months for the Huawei, before the 5.
  • Height: 192.7 cm versus 123 cm, with a similar footprint → the BYD needs a room with a high ceiling, the Huawei fits where height is short.
  • Inverter: sixteen brands on BYD's list versus only Huawei SUN2000 and SUN5000 → with the BYD you keep your inverter or change it later; with the Huawei, battery and inverter are chosen together.

Which one to choose

Choose BYD Battery-Box Premium HVM 19.3 if…

you already have a Fronius, SMA, GoodWe or another inverter from BYD's list and want to add storage without replacing it, or you will pick the inverter later. If the router drops the house stays autonomous: without internet the battery works fully. In return you need a room at least 192.7 cm tall, rated IP55 and operating from −10 °C.

Choose Huawei LUNA2000-21-S1 if…

the system already has a Huawei SUN2000 or SUN5000 inverter, or you will choose it together with the battery, and the bay is low: the LUNA2000-21-S1 fits in 123 cm, rated IP66 and for operation down to −20 °C. The trade-off: at one full cycle a day the 28.84 MWh cap arrives after about 3 years 10 months, before the 5-year warranty ends; also no other inverter brands and reduced operation without internet.
